Mirrors Driving School was born out of my enthusiasm for all things driving. Established in 2009 Mirrors Driving School has become something I never could have imagined!

Having my son Dan, by my side has been incredibly fabulous and I love watching him grow year by year as a coach! I genuinely love teaching people to drive. There's something incredibly rewarding about watching someone grow from feeling nervous and unsure to becoming confident and capable behind the wheel. Every lesson is a chance to build not just skills, but trust, independence, and self-belief.

Being part of that journey, seeing the moment it all "clicks" for someone - is just the best - then seeing them pass their driving test - it's the best feeling in the World! It's more than just teaching driving; it's helping people gain freedom. I'm proud to be a part of that every day. Thank you to everyone who comes to us at Mirrors.

Dan Smith

I've worked alongside my mum since I qualified to be be a driving instructor in 2018. It's something that means a great deal to me. It's more than just a job—it's a shared passion that has brought us closer together. We both take pride in teaching people to drive, building their confidence on the road, guiding them through challenges, and celebrating their progress as they become safe and independent drivers. Learning from her experience, while developing my own approach has been incredibly rewarding. It's a role that combines responsibility, patience, and trust, and I'm proud to carry it forward with her.

Welcome to Mirrors Driving School - an award-winning, family-run driving school proudly based in Bishop Auckland.

Founded by Karen on 15th June 2009, Mirrors Driving School was built on a passion for helping people gain the confidence, skills, and independence that come with learning to drive. Karen's vision was simple: to create a friendly, supportive environment where every learner feels valued, encouraged, and inspired to succeed.

What started as a dream has grown into a trusted local driving school with a fantastic reputation for high-quality instruction and outstanding customer care. That commitment was recognised in 2019, when Mirrors Driving School was proudly named Bishop Auckland's Best Small Business - an achievement that reflects the dedication, care, and professionalism shown to every pupil.

Karen is joined by her son, Dan, making Mirrors a truly special mother-and-son team. Together, they share the same enthusiasm for teaching, bringing patience, professionalism, and plenty of encouragement to every lesson. Their different personalities complement one another perfectly, creating a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment while delivering the highest standard of tuition.

At Mirrors Driving School, learning to drive is about far more than passing a test. Karen and Dan are passionate about helping people become safe, confident drivers for life. Every lesson is tailored to the individual, allowing learners to progress at their own pace while building the confidence they'll carry long after they've passed.
